Earlier today, I joined Michelle Martin on Money FM 89.3 for a conversation on the evolving landscape of China’s technology sector.
China’s growth narrative is no longer defined solely by familiar internet giants such as Alibaba and Tencent. Instead, attention is shifting toward the rise of “hard tech” leaders, including semiconductor players like SMIC and battery powerhouse CATL, alongside companies building the foundations of advanced industrial and AI infrastructure.
We also discussed how these firms differ from platform-based leaders such as Alibaba and Tencent and what this transition may signal for the next phase of innovation in China.
A key part of the conversation focused on major market benchmarks such as the CSI STAR & ChiNext 50 Index and the Hang Seng TECH Index, and what they reveal about the direction of Chinese technological development and investor sentiment.
The conversation further examines the intensifying AI competition between China and the United States, including Nvidia’s renewed access to the Chinese market.
